Fly spray didn’t kill the cockroaches in Trevor Scott’s Lanzarote apartment, so he complained to the Horizon rep. Four days later, a fumigator treated the rooms. Within two hours, about 50 more cockroaches marched across the children’s bedroom. Trevor killed the insects. Thomson (which owns Horizon) denied liability, but offered £176 when Trevor issued a summons.

In court, Thomson claimed that you can’t prevent cockroaches and that they aren’t a health hazard. Trevor disproved this using extracts from textbooks. The judge awarded him £500 plus costs and expenses.
