Documentation corresponding both to the driver (identity card and driving licence) and to the vehicle (driving licence, required authorisation and certifcation showing that the required technical services have been made) must be carried in the vehicle. Driving without the corresponding administrative authorisation, without registration, or without fulfilling the technical conditions required can be penalised with fines of between 15,000 and 250,000 ptas. and suspension of the administrative authorisation for up to one year.

Documentation corresponding to the vehicle insurance should also be carried at all times.

Driving without insurance can be sanctioned as a criminal offence, with fines of one to two months, or it may be penalised with a penalty of 100,000 to 500,000 ptas, with the confiscation of the vehicle until an insurance policy is taken out.
