The Vehicle

a) Checks

On collecting the vehicle, (which may be done somewhere other than where the contract is formalised), the hirer should check that there is no damage or any other kind of anomaly. Check the state of the tyres, lights, safety belts, bodywork, seat covers etc. Any anomaly should be specified in the contract or the vehicle can be rejected if it is in bad condition, as the hirer will be charged for any damages found when he returns the vehicle.

It should also be specified (and expressly stated in the contract) that the vehicle is to be handed over with a full tank of petrol, and the hirer should check that this is the case. Similarly, the hirer will be required to hand back the car with a full tank, or pay the difference.

b) Accessories

It is sometimes possible to hire, along with the vehicle, certain accessories, such as roof-racks, ski-racks, children's car-seats etc. The company will normally be able to provide these, but they will charge extra for them.

c) Special Delivery

The delivery or collection of a vehicle in a special place (hotel, airport, etc.) or at special times outside the normal timetable of the hire company may also give rise to an extra charge.
