Documentation and Insurance Policies |
|
Drivers involved in an accident will be required to provide their personal data and address, and the vehicle documentation. The insurance policy and the last receipt paid will also be required, and a note will be made of the Company and Policy number. Whenever possible, and when agreement exists over the way in which the accident occurred, the two sides should fill in the Friendly Agreement Accident Form, which is the document adopted through agreement of all of the countries of the European Union. A copy of this form will have been provided you by the Insurance Company when signing the policy. This form must be signed by all the intervening drivers, each of them keeping a copy of it. It is important that all of the sections should be filled in, including the sub-sections in which the cause of the accident is specified, and the mumber of sub-sections filled in should be noted at the end. You should make your own Accident Declaration as soon as possible in the nearest branch of your insurance company, forwarding this by telephone or telefax, if possible. Your Insurance Company may have an agreement with a comapny in Spain on assistance in case of accident. Ask for information on this question before starting your trip, and contact this company in case of accident. In Spain, it is the Spanish Office of Car Insurers (OFESAUTO) which, on behalf of the corresponding national office, assumes the civil responsibility derived from accidents which occur in Spain for motor vehicles registered in member countries of the European Union, or other countries which form part of the agreement. You should also contact by telephone your Road Travel Insurance Company if you intend to use their services. |
