The Bank of Spain

 

This is the governing organ and referee of the Spanish financial system, for which function is vested with certain powers and performs the functions of information, control, inspection and banking discipline

In accordance with the law :

- It is the bank authorised to emit coins and notes   (from   1874) and, subject to prior notification in the   Official   State Bulletin, may change and take the   aforementioned out of circulation

The consumers and private users may turn to the Bank of Spain to underwrite Public    Debt   and to report activities believed to be fraudulent or contrary to their interests


 

 

- It performs the following services: State Treasury, Public debt and Public Sector   Loans

- It can only give loans to public organisms and state companies.

- It does not carry out operations with individuals or private entities.
  (Unless otherwise authorised by the Council of Ministers.)

- The rest of the banks are users of the Bank of Spain, which looks after their liquid   reserves,   to which it grants loans and for which it carries out functions of   compensation.

- The consumers and private users may turn to the Bank of Spain to underwrite Public    Debt   and to report activities believed to be fraudulent or contrary to their interests    carried out by   banks, savings banks or other finance entities
