It is possible to enter complaints about producers or traders in consumer centres. In case a law is violated and the amount in dispute is less than € 5000, the consumer can make his complaint at the district court (Amtsgericht). If however, the amount in dispute is greater than € 5000, a lawyer must be hired and the complaint taken to the county court (Landgericht).

People with less money can get legal advice. Places to receive this legal advice (öffentliche Rechtsauskunft) can be found at: www.bmj.bund.de/.
Large insurance companies or banks have ombudsmen (Ombudsleute), who are specialised persons and generally retired legal experts. They are able to solve conflicts where the amount in dispute is less than € 5000.
